Sewing Machine Refresher at The Workroom

Throw pillow (Nigella fabric by Amy Butler)
A few days ago, I headed out to Parkdale to attend the Sewing Machine Essentials class offered by The Workroom. I haven't really used my sewing machine in years and was in desperate need of a refresher: every time I have tried to use the machine lately, I ended up with a big mess on my hands.

Going to The Workroom was a great idea: the environment is funky and gorgeous, and Karyn is a wonderful teacher. I picked up quite a few tips.

Key points:
- I should be changing my needle a lot more often than I do. (A LOT MORE!)
- It is important to use the correct bobbin, and to wind and load it properly.
- I learned how to overlock without an actual serger. Sweet!

The end result was a beautiful little pillow, of which I am oddly proud.
It looks very pretty on our bed.

Thank you - the class was very informative: sewing machine technology has changed since I last did (semi) serious sewing!
